DC Battery Operated Stair Lift Control

KB Electronics, Inc. Manufacturer of AC Drives, DC Drives & Variable Speed Controls

Application:  DC Battery Operated Stair Lift Control

Elderly or wheelchair-bound individuals use stair lift equipment to move up and down a flight of stairs. Ease of operation and reliability are important features of this product.

A motor and drive control the speed of the chair lift and enable it to stop and start in a smooth manner. The application requires a battery powered DC to DC drive that can be remote controlled and is capable of charging and maintaining the battery.

KB Solution:

The choice for this application is a newly designed control, the KBSL. KB’s engineers worked with the customer to develop the exact drive needed for this application.

Custom software and hardware inputs allow the customer to determine power up features, up/down logic and limit switches to control movement.

Customization includes being able to operate the lift from the chair controls or a handheld infrared remote control. An on board buzzer is programmed to notify the user at the start of operation and when the battery voltage is low. The customized battery charger operation maintains a constant voltage of 28.8 volts.

Adjustments include customer settable jumpers to allow selection of features including preset speeds and start up delays. Additional jumper adjustments allow the customer to select the remote channel ID and activate the brake function which contains short circuit protection.

KBAC Hybrid AC Drive Installation Demo

KB Electronics, Inc. Manufacturer of AC Drives, DC Drives & Variable Speed Controls

This demonstration shows the ease of installation of the KB Electronics, Inc., KBAC Hybrid AC Drive in a NEMA 4X Enclosure.

KB is the first manufacturer of Variable Frequency Drives to apply the term

“Hybrid” to a segment of their AC drive line. The Hybrid drive merges the digital

technology of the microprocessor with easy to use analog interfaces. In simple

terms, this means no complicated programming or commissioning is required.

Automatic Chip Conveyor

KB Electronics, Inc.

Application: Automatic Chip Conveyor

Conveyors that transport metal chips from machining centers are generally plagued with jam up problems. The chips accumulate to the point of system overload and eventually shut down the conveyor. The conveyors are fitted with manual controls for an operator to sequence the scrap material away from the machine. Lost production time results since the operator must now clear the jam and restart the system.

KB solution:

The choice for this application was a KBDA digital drive housed in a rugged die-cast NEMA-4X (IP-65) aluminum enclosure. The engineers at KB were able to develop custom software that senses a system overload prior to a jam up. A series of anti-jam sequences are performed very rapidly which clear the jam and allow the process to continue.

KB Electronics, Inc. of Coral Springs, FL, a manufacturer of AC drives and DC drives from fractional through 5 horsepower, welcomed Congressman Ted Deutch to their facilities on May 1, 2012.

KB products consist of energy saving variable-speed drives (VSD’s). Energy savings is realized by using variable motor speed instead of constant motor speed. Other benefits of using VSD’s include less equipment wear resulting in lower maintenance costs.

“We were honored to have the Congressman visit our manufacturing facility” says Michael Neider, executive vice president of KB. “We are proud of our continued success and being able to help the local economy by keeping the assembly and design of our products here in Coral Springs.”

KB’s continued growth will provide job opportunities to local residents. Their hands-on training programs provide individuals with new knowledge and skills. This is beneficial to both KB and the Coral Springs community.

“Across America, we are witnessing a resurgence of manufacturing, and thanks to innovative manufacturers like KB Electronics, Inc. this growth is taking root in South Florida,” said Congressman Ted Deutch. “Touring KB’s facility only reinforced my commitment to investing in research and development, technical training, and other initiatives that promote growth and job creation in our manufacturing sector.”

Highlights of Congressman Deutch’s visit included a tour of KB’s extensive testing area, surface mount machinery and the engineering lab.
